New Rules for Charitable Solicitations Registration

Nonprofits who solicit charitable donations from the public are required by law to register for charitable solicitations with the Colorado Secretary of State's office and renew this registration on an annual basis unless specific exemptions apply.

In accordance with HB 08-1109 passed last year, the Secretary of State has issued new rules on charitable solicitations. View the notice statement here (PDF).

These rules include the following subjects:

• Required electronic filing of charitable solicitations reports;
• Fines for charities who fail to register or file late registrations, and reasons for waiver of fines;
• Suspensions from soliciting charitable contributions;
• Procedures for filing deadlines and extensions, reminder notices, and expedited hearings;
• Registration requirements for internet solicitations.
