Public Policy Resources

Public Policy and Lobbying

The Colorado Nonprofit Association aggressively advocates for the nonprofit sector at the state and national levels. Through our staff and lobbying firm, we research and proactively act on issues of sector-wide importance at the Capitol. We also work with national partners, including the National Council of Nonprofits (NCN) and Independent Sector to address federal issues impacting nonprofits.

Colorado Participation Project

Government Relations Forum

Association members may attend these free monthly meetings every third Wednesday during the legislative session to discuss state and federal policy issues impacting nonprofits. For information on these meetings and how to join by conference call, contact Mark Turner at mturner@coloradononprofits.org.

Public Policy Updates and Legislative Matrices

These convenient tools help members stay up to date on current public policy issues. During the legislative session, subscribers to the public policy email list receive monthly updates and weekly legislative matrices with summaries of bills of interest to the sector and their progress in the General Assembly. Contact Mark Turner to subscribe to this free email service. Click here for the current updates.

Legislative Reception

The Colorado Nonprofit Association partners with various organizations to kick off the legislative session with an annual Legislative Reception. Receptions are held near the Capitol to encourage attendance by legislators. Association members are encouraged to attend these free networking events to strengthen relationships with legislators.

Toolkits

The Colorado Nonprofit Association has created free toolkits for nonprofits' advocacy efforts. The toolkits provide information about what 501(c)(3)s can do as far as legislative and media advocacy and voter engagement activities and pointers for how to effectively work with public officials and the media.  All toolkits are in PDF format. Click here to download the latest version of Adobe Acrobat Reader.
