Job Description: 

Roundup River Ranch seeks experienced pediatric nurses for seasonal summer employment, who want to make a difference in the lives of children with serious medical conditions.

Position Dates:            May – August

Special Conditions

This is a residential position. Housing and meals are provided during sessions when campers are on site.

Roundup River Ranch camp and medical staff will be expected to:

  • Be able to identify emergency situations, either by seeing them happen, hearing cries for help, or hearing the emergency alert siren and bell.
  • Have the strength, endurance, and physical skills to respond quickly and appropriately to emergency situations, according to written emergency procedures and plans.
  • Be able to demonstrate or participate in camp activities as they medically supervise campers:  this will require the ability to walk, sit, climb, kneel, crouch, stoop, and stand.
  • Be able to move items or people.  This will require the strength and mobility to push, pull, lift, and carry.

Reasonable accommodations on the above expectations may be met.  The intention is to ensure camp staff are able to physically care for campers and ensure appropriate emergency response at all times.

Areas of Responsibility

Summer staff nurses provide routine and emergent nursing care for campers.

Staff nurses work under the direction of the Nursing and Medical Directors and collaborate with volunteer physicians, volunteer nurses, and camp staff to ensure that campers are provided with the highest quality of care.  Each RN oversees the medical needs of the assigned cabins per session.

  • Prepare and administer medications as scheduled and as necessary to campers
  • Provide routine procedures as scheduled and as necessary for each camper, including the care of internal and external central lines, dressing changes, G-Tube and other continuous/bolus feeds, urinary catheters, etc.
  • Provide rotating nursing coverage, with physician support, in the medical center (The Depot) for daytime shifts and overnight call
  • Provide medical oversight, triage and first aid as needed at high risk activity areas
  • Documentation and record keeping of medical care, including data entry and use of online database and online logbook
  • Ensuring confidentiality of medical information and medical records at camp
  • Work in partnership with the medical and camp team to provide support and education to camp staff and volunteers.
  • Serve as an educational resource for staff and volunteers in regard to the illnesses and medical needs of their specific campers as well as the growth, development, activities of daily living and special hygiene needs of campers.
  • Provide supervision and guidance to cabin medical volunteers as assigned.
  • 2 years pediatric, ER, PICU nursing experience
  • State of Colorado Registered Nursing License (or licensure in a compact state)
  • Current AED/BLS and PALS or ENPC certification
