Job Description: 

The mission of the Volunteers of America Colorado Branch is to identify and serve the basic needs of the most vulnerable individuals and families within the community.

Areas of Responsibility

Description

Works in conjunction but under the direction of the lead teacher in planning, organizing, implementing and delivering a preschool education program based on the individual child’s and group’s intellectual, physical, social and emotional needs. Serves meals in accordance with state, local and program procedures and regulations. Teams with the lead teacher in managing the classroom physical and learning environment and partnering with parents and families. Works in a collaborative manner with all team members and consultants. Proactively creates a positive environment, provides input, observation and assessment of program participants and interacts with parents and family services staff as a part of the early childhood development component.

Requirements

Teacher Associate I - Requirements:

 

Enrolled in a program leading to an associate or baccalaureate degree; or enrolled in a child development associate credential program to be completed within 2 years, completion of one of the early childhood education courses in outlined in Colorado Licensing rules, Section 7.702.42, A, with a course grade of “C” or better and twelve (12) months (1820 hours) verified experience AND 2 years of related experience. One-year experience in relating to small children and interacting with parents and others who represent various backgrounds. Good organizational skills and ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Ability to team teach and fill in as lead in lead teacher’s absence. Bilingual (English/Spanish) required for dual instruction.

 

Teacher Associate II - Requirements:

 

Associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education, or closely related field with a CDA or completion of two of the early childhood education courses outlined in Colorado Licensing rules, Section 7.702.42, A, with a course grade of “C” or better and twelve (12) months (1820 hours) verified experience. Two years of experience in relating to small children and interacting with parents and others who represent various backgrounds. Good organizational skills and ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Ability to learn teach and fill in as lead in lead teacher's absence. Bilingual (English/Spanish) required for dual instruction.

 

 

Physical and emotional requirements:

 

Teaching children is a physically demanding job. Teachers must feel confident that they can care for up to 12 children alone and can handle the stress, tension, and exasperation of daily contact with children, parents, and staff members. Regular and consistent attendance is critical for success.

Daily requirements are as follows:

Able to bend, swoop, push, lunge, reach, squat kneel, sit cross legged

Able to stand, walk, move up to 5 consecutive hours

Able to hear and process auditory information in a noisy classroom environment

Able to visually supervise children up to 100 feet away to accommodate classroom, hallway, playground, and field trip activities

Able to lift up to 40 pounds

Able to operate computer, iPad, copier and other office equipment

Able to function in summer heat and winter chill while on playground or on fieldtrips

Able to care for up to 12 children alone and positively manage stress, tension, and demands of daily contact with children, parents, and staff member

Able to complete all required paperwork in compliance with licensing and program standards

Able to physically, visually, auditorily monitor the classroom, playground, and field trips for safety

 

 

Type: Full Time

 

 

Salary: $14.54 – 16.70 per hour (plus $1.00 differential for bilingual skills)

 

 

Work Schedule: Monday – Friday 7:00 a.m. –6:00 p.m.
