Job Description: 

The Transportation intern will work under the supervision of NCSL’s Transportation program staff.  The intern will be called on to prepare concise and accurate responses to legislative requests for information on a variety of topics, including the compilation of 50-state charts and statute and bill summaries. Topics will vary but with a focus on traffic safety legislation and programs. The intern will have opportunities to research and write for NCSL publications such as the NCSL Blog, State Legislatures magazine and full-length policy reports and have their work published with attribution.

 

Areas of Responsibility

The intern will be called on to prepare concise and accurate responses to legislative requests for information on a variety of topics, including the compilation of 50-state charts and statute and bill summaries.

Requirements/Qualifications
  • Qualified candidates must have a bachelor’s degree and be currently enrolled in law school or graduate program, possess strong research skills and should be able to write clearly and effectively.
  • Candidates must be able to research all aspects of federal, state and local laws including state statutes, state legislation, federal legislation, case law and federal and state regulations.
  • Experience with the state legislative process or transportation issues are a plus, as is familiarity with current state policy trends.
Compensation/Benefits

10-20 hours/week.  $15.00 per hour depending on exp. Many colleges and universities will give academic credit for internships. It is the student’s responsibility to contact his or her advisor and obtain academic credit within the institution’s guidelines.

The position is a flexible 10-20 hours a week starting September 2017, with the possibility of an extended period of up to a year working as an intern.
