In this series, discover how your nonprofit can develop and implement a volunteer strategy, cultivate leaders and benefit from your community's time and expertise. This valuable program will enhance your knowledge whether you are a new or seasoned volunteer manager.

The Spark the Change Volunteer, Management Training Series (VMTS) consists of six modules created by the Points of Light Institute. Classes are designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of the major components of a nonprofit volunteer management program. Earn a Volunteer Management Certificate and start developing volunteer recruitment, retention, recognition strategies and methods of offering projects for diverse audiences.

Our six-session series will be covered in three full-day workshops held on April 12, 19 and 26th (9am to 4pm) in Colorado Springs. 

Workshop 1
Friday | April 12th | 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. 

Part 1: Understanding Volunteering
Identifying key elements of a volunteer program, the current trends in volunteering, and social motivators to volunteering.

Part 2: Planning Your Volunteer Program
Writing a purpose statement for the volunteer program, determining the appropriate roles for volunteers, writing volunteer position descriptions, and understanding risk management.

Workshop 2
Friday | April 19th | 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. 

Part 3: Recruiting & Placing Volunteers
Effective volunteer recruitment and placement includes learning, applying, and improving recruitment and placement methods.

Part 4: Orienting & Training Volunteers
Preparing to train volunteers, training volunteers to perform their services and developing plans for improving volunteer training.

Workshop 3
Friday | April 26th | 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. 

Part 5: Supervising Volunteers
Designing, improving and implementing strategies for volunteer supervision and recognition.

Part 6: Evaluating Your Volunteer Program
How to evaluate your volunteer program and the next steps for evaluation and improving your volunteer program.

  • $230 for members of Colorado Nonprofit Association (must be logged in for discount on Regular price)
  • $250 standard

Qualifies for Excellence in Nonprofit Principles and Practices. Completion of a post-training evaluation is required for this training to count toward recognition.
