Position Summary
The contracted Executive Director is positioned as a visionary leader of the association and is expected to demonstrate leadership and skilled advocacy for the organization and Colorado’s sixteen Area Agencies on Aging (AAA). The Executive Director is accountable for advocating for the aging network to Colorado’s policy makers and stakeholders, liaising with the State Unit on Aging, the Governor’s Office, and other aging entities, and creating a sustainable funding source for their position.
Job functions
• Assure compliance with legal, federal and state requirements
• Support Colorado’s Area Agency on Aging (AAA) Directors in the pooling of resources among their agencies to become more efficient and identify service innovations elsewhere that can be utilized among AAAs
• Research and apply for relevant grants as approved by the Directors and serve as coordinator for all grants applied for and received
• Special projects as assigned by c4a executive board
• Serve as a spokesperson for the association in conjunction with the AAA Directors, ensuring a professional image and reputation of the Colorado Association of Area Agencies on Aging (c4a) and enhancing public understanding of the AAAs’ role, resources and expertise
• Develops and maintains working relationship with USAging to enhance and promote the Association’s national interests and stay informed on developing trends, policy objectives, and national initiatives
• Work with the Denver Regional Council of Governments’ lobbyist to advocate on behalf of Older Coloradans with Colorado’s policy makers and other stakeholders on promoting policies to support healthy aging
• Disseminate information through web resources, statewide advocacy, leadership forums and printed media on issues impacting Older Coloradans
• Work with c4a to set legislative priorities each year and coordinate association responses on issues of concern and support
• Work with the Colorado Commission on Aging and Colorado Center for Aging to educate c4a and legislators on pertinent legislative proposals and plan attendance at state house for important legislative sessions
• Prepare oral and written testimony for pertinent Bills
• Establish and strengthen partnerships within the statewide and national aging network
Required Skills
• Proven success in grant writing, administration, public relations, and legislative process
• Has excellent relationship-building skills to effectively cultivate trust-based relationships with stakeholders, create collaborations, and establish partnerships. This includes acting with a high degree of aptitude for political realities, interests, and opportunities for compromise

Preferred Skills
• Demonstrated knowledge of financial budgeting and management through establishing, integrating, and monitoring a budget and identifying and implementing new strategies for increasing revenues and containing costs
• Public speaking experience, and comfort in extemporaneous speaking situations
• Ability to set and focus on organizational priorities by identifying the key issues to address from the multitude of important topics and organizational noise
• Ability to form coalitions, network and work effectively across interdisciplinary groups
• Proven organizational strategy and analytical thinking
• Proven ability to execute financial strategies
• Familiarity with the Colorado Legislative Process
Work Environment
• Meetings take place virtually and in-person throughout the state. Work may be performed remotely and/or at other locations/offices
• Colorado residency required
