Mi Casa Resource Center is seeking a bilingual professional with a passion for small business and experience in instructing adult learners regarding food businesses or managing food businesses to join us as a part time Business Advisor & Instructor. Opportunities exist for individuals to get hired as a Business Advisor & Instructor or Senior Business Advisor & Instructor based on their skills and experience in this field. This is a part time (10-15 hour per week) position, and the person would need to be able to teach in the evenings from 6-8pm one or two nights a week and offer one-one advising sessions during the day at least one day per week. This position is not eligible for any benefits except health time which is provided at the rate of 1 hour per 30 hours worked.  

The Business Advisor & Instructor/Senior Business Advisor & Instructor, La Receta provides individualized business training and advising to startup food businesses in more than one language (ideally English & Spanish), supports recruitment of program participants and consulting clients and supports curriculum improvement strategies. In addition, this person is responsible for working one-on-one with participants in the classes to provide technical assistance and business advising.   

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 

Leadership

  • Serves as a coach and mentor to other Business Advisors & Instructors at a senior level.  

Participant Interaction

  • Facilitates an inclusive virtual, in person and/or blended learning classroom environmentusing adult learning principles in English and Spanish surrounding the foundations of food businesses.  
  • Provides business advising services to participants & client including providing expertise in food businesses.  
  • Prepares lesson plans, materials for classes, takes attendance, and documents data in Salesforce.  
  • Provides technical assistance to program participants.  

Operational Tasks

  • Implements best practices for the ongoing improvement of program curriculum, technical assistance tools, resources and information in partnership with the Director of Business Pathways.  
  • Plans and coordinates guest speakers, graduations, etc.  
  • Forges partnerships with other organizations to provide services to the food business owners, to market the program and to obtain sponsorships. 
  • Recognizes any additional needs for support and coordinates resource referrals and support services with Resource Navigator.  
  • Prepares all required reports and maintains a comprehensive set of records on all participants, client activity and outcomes in Salesforce. 
  • Supports the team with community outreach, including PR, marketing and in-person events to inform and recruit individuals from the English- and Spanish-speaking community. 
  • Supports the Outreach and Operations team in development and implementing innovative techniques to recruit new participants to BP’s programs and services. 

Evaluation

  • Tracks participant outcomes from training, including data collection and input.  
  • Tracks information generated from consulting sessions in Salesforce with thorough and concise case notes.  

Fundraising and Grants Management

  • Assists in putting together a list of approved food businesses for MCRC’s fundraising
    or other events.
     
  • May possibly be assigned to represent Mi Casa at community events and on committees, panels, etc. 

Other

  • Performs related duties as assigned within their scope of practice.  

  

QUALIFICATIONS

  • At least 1 year of experience in adult instruction, facilitation or advising for small businesses or an equivalent combination of education and experience or at least 3 years of experience in adult instruction, facilitation or advising for small businesses or an equivalent combination of education at a senior level.  
  • Must be able to read, write and speak professional level English Spanish. 
  • Entrepreneurial, business management or business development experience and/or experience developing business plans and counseling business owners is preferred. 
  • 1-2 years of experience in the food industry or with food entrepreneurs or 3-4 years of experience in the food industry or food entrepreneurs at the senior level.  
  • Proficiency in Microsoft suite, Google suite and familiarity with Salesforce or similar
    systems.
     
  • Strong presentation, facilitation, networking and team building skills. 
  • Experience working in a non-profit organization and/or working with diverse populations preferred. 
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends as required to meet the needs of the organization.  
  • Background Check is required along with valid driver’s license, valid insurance and good motor vehicle record.
