Job Description: 

This donor development position is responsible for securing funds via new donor acquisition through major gifts, high-net worth individuals, and corporate sponsor-ships.  The Director will provide both strategic leadership and support of Tennyson’s mission, programs, communications, marketing, and fundraising initiatives in establishing and achieving its corporate objectives.  The selected applicant will be responsible for reaching a fund raising goal of $1.5 million plus annually.  This position reports to the Chief Marketing and Development Officer (CMDO) and has no supervisory responsibilities.  


Areas of Responsibility
  • Actively work with the CMDO and leadership to develop and implement a comprehensive development strategy to include major gifts, individuals, and corporations to meet revenue objectives.
  • Responsible for securing funds via new donor acquisition through major gifts, high-net worth individuals, and corporate sponsor-ships.
  • Forge new relationships to build Tennyson’s visibility, impact, and financial resources and will also design and implement a comprehensive plan for developing key external alliances by cultivating financial support.
  • Have primary responsibility for development and execution of all proposals (as needed); write and archive all proposals with a long-term relationship-management approach in partnership with CMDO.
  • Oversee research funding sources and trends, with foresight, to help position ahead of major funding changes or trends;
  • Monitor all donor information and provide and present statistical analysis to CMDO.
  • Helps establish performance measures, monitors results, and evaluates the effectiveness of the organization’s Development acquisition program.
  • Align department resources to meet mission and revenue objectives while implementing clear steps to sustain and grow revenues year-over-year.

  • Ability to construct, articulate, and implement annual strategic development plan.
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Five or more years of professional experience in fundraising and/or sales; demonstrated success in a development function (managing and forging relationships with multiple donor sources).
  • Demonstrated experience of having acquired and expanded donor relationships over time.
  • Valid Colorado Driver License or ability to obtain within 90 days.
  • All positions require criminal CBI background check, FBI fingerprint check, State of CO child abuse check, DMV driving record check, pre-employment drug test, pre-employment physical, academic credential verification, and reference check.
