Payrate:    $19 ~ $20/hour (depending on experience)
+$0.50/hour after successful completion of 150-day probationary period

Work Schedule:    Thursday ~ Monday* | 9am ~ 2pm* | <30 hours/week
*This position must accommodate a flexible work schedule including weekends, evenings, and occasional holidays.

Summary
The Facilities Technician will be responsible for cleaning, maintaining, and securing Museum facilities to provide an appealing and safe experience for guests, visitors, and employees. This position consists primarily of custodial duties and various maintenance activities which are critical to the Museum’s day-to-day operations. The Facilities Technician reports to the Operations Manager and works closely with the Executive Director, Pilot Programs Manager, Guest Services Coordinator, Aviation Programs Coordinator, and EoF volunteers.

Wings Over the Rockies is a non-profit community organization dedicated to unlocking dreams of flight through exhibits, local events, and educational programming. Exploration of Flight (EoF) is our flight-focused educational extension. This 15-acre campus is located at the Centennial Airport where we offer showcase events with a variety of aircraft, aviation immersion programs, pilot ground training, and flight experiences. EoF is home to our Blue Sky Gallery exhibit and interactive aviation center featuring an airworthy fleet of civilian and military aircraft.

Located on the former Lowry Air Force Base in east Denver’s historic Lowry Field neighborhood, our Air & Space Museum welcomes roughly 160,000 visitors each year representing all 50 states and dozens of countries internationally. Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Please Note – this list is not all inclusive but intended to be a general guide to the essential duties of this position.

  • Custodial upkeep of Museum facilities including exhibit spaces, meeting rooms, administrative offices, restrooms, public areas, as well as the exterior campus and surrounding campus
  • Sweeping, mopping, dusting, wiping, sanitizing, vacuuming, emptying waste receptacles, restocking paper supplies, waste management, snow removal, mowing, grounds-keeping, etc.
  • Operate the floor scrubber (‘Zamboni’), snow plow, aircraft tug, and other light machinery
  • Maintain a clean Hangar floor free from liquids, debris and other slip/fall hazards
  • Follow proper health code sanitation procedures and demonstrate safe workplace practices
  • Help organize and maintain the janitorial supplies inventory
  • Turn-on/shutdown exhibits, displays, stow equipment, lock cabinets, secure doors, etc.
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance, e.g. minor facility and custodial equipment repairs, painting, landscaping, etc.
  • Assist with the set-up, repair, and removal of exhibits as needed
  • Work with outside vendors such as plumbers, electricians and contract cleaning personnel
  • Identify and report to the Operations Manager any needed equipment repairs, major maintenance issues, or areas in need of deep cleaning

Requirements & Qualifications

  • 1~2 years of experience cleaning commercial or office facilities
  • Previous experience in custodial and/or maintenance related fields
  • Working knowledge of cleaning chemicals including proper application and disposal
  • Proficient using hand and power tools, operating equipment, and performing basic maintenance tasks
  • Able to perform the physical workload, e.g. climbing ladders, repetitive motions, and standing for up to 8 hours/day
  • Able to navigate 15,000 sq. ft. of floor space in all (cold/hot/humid/dry) climate conditions
  • Able to squat/lift 50+ lbs. and push/pull carts or other equipment weighing up to 100 lbs.
  • Able to tolerate strong or unpleasant fumes, odors, and the handling of waste materials
  • Strong work ethic, reliable, and good communication skills
  • Positive self-starter with good problem-solving skills and the ability to work without immediate supervision
