Job Summary:

Break Bread, a small but mighty organization passionate about bringing our community together, is seeking an upbeat and friendly Kitchen Assistant to support our team. The Kitchen Assistant will work closely with our Chef to prepare meals on Wednesdays and Saturdays, as well as assist with prep day on Fridays. Our organization serves free meals to people facing food insecurity, and we are looking for a compassionate, reliable person to join our team and be part of a great cause!

Responsibilities:

Maintain organization and upkeep of the kitchen.

Ensure regular and consistent availability on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

Put away orders and sort through donations, following the FIFO (First In, First Out) storage method.

Break down large vegetable donations for storage and use.

Demonstrate strong knife skills.

Stand for up to 8 hours a day.

Lift up to 50 lbs.

Exhibit knowledge about kitchen equipment and their functions.

Multi-task effectively.

Work comfortably with volunteers.

Obtain and maintain a Tri-County Food Handler’s Certificate or ServSafe Certificate.

Eagerly help our neighbors in need.

Qualifications:

Prior experience in banquets or catering is a plus.

Strong work ethic and ability to work well in a fast-paced environment.

Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Flexibility to work on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.

Passion for giving back to the community and helping those facing food insecurity.

Benefits

Break Bread offers a part-time position (20 hours/week) with a competitive hourly wage of $18 - $20/hr, and the possibility of transitioning to a full-time position after 60 days. We could not do the work we do without the guidance, leadership, skill, and heart of our staff members.
