As we enter an exciting new era of growth and innovation—expanding our impact and reimagining our business model—we are seeking an experienced, creative leader to drive our communications and marketing strategy.

What We Believe

  • Everyone deserves to feel like they belong to a community
  • Everyone deserves to live with a sense of purpose
  • People affected by disability face even greater barriers to connection
  • Transformation and growth require intentional practice
  • No Barriers is a mindset – not a specific activity
  • The No Barriers Mindset should be easy to access
  • What’s Within You is Stronger Than What’s in Your Way

The Role

The Director of Marketing and Communications will serve as the chief storyteller, marketer and communications architect for No Barriers. You’ll be joining an organization with a clear mission and a strong brand identity, and you will lead the strategy for how we share our mission and our impact with the world.

This is a position that requires a blend of strategic leadership and technical execution. You will design our integrated marketing and communications strategy while also directly managing the day-to-day implementation of the plan, to include email, social media, web updates, and content creation.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Communications & Marketing

  • Develop and manage a comprehensive, integrated marketing and communications plan that aligns with organizational goals for fundraising, program recruitment, and community building.
  • Bring creative leadership and fresh ideas to how we reach and engage our audiences.
  • Manage the marketing lifecycle for signature events and programs, ensuring high visibility and successful registration/attendance.

Content & Storytelling

  • Act as the lead writer for the organization, drafting compelling blogs and impact stories that capture the voices of our participants and alumni.
  • Ensure all communications across every channel remain consistent with No Barriers’ established brand standards and mission-driven tone.

Digital & Social Media Management

  • Oversee and execute the strategy for all social media channels, focusing on community growth and meaningful engagement.
  • Manage the email marketing ecosystem, including newsletters, donor journeys, and program-related announcements.
  • Serve as the primary manager of the No Barriers website, ensuring updates are timely, SEO-optimized, and accessible.

Graphic Design

  • Produce high-quality, professional visual assets using tools like Canva, adhering to our brand guidelines to ensure a cohesive look across all digital and print materials.

Leadership & Team Support

  • While this role has no full-time direct reports, the Director has the option to recruit and manage one part-time paid intern (approx. 10 hours/week) to support specific pillars such as design or social media.

Work Environment & Travel

  • Location: You’ll work remote day-to-day, but candidates must reside in Colorado to participate in occasional in-person meetings and onsite programming. Our home office is located in Fort Collins, CO.
  • Travel: Ability to travel out-of-state for occasional, pre-scheduled No Barriers events to facilitate on-site marketing and content capture.

Qualifications

  • Experience: 5+ years of experience in marketing and communications, with a proven track record working in an integrated marcomm environment for an organization with a small staff.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in WordPress/Elementor (or similar CMS), Canva, social media platforms, and email marketing platforms (e.g., Constant Contact, Bloomerang or similar).
  • Communication: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with an aptitude for interviewing participants and translating their experiences into moving narratives.
  • Strategic Mindset: Experience taking an established brand and finding innovative ways to amplify its reach and impact.
  • Collaboration: Proven ability to establish strong working partnerships with development and program area leads
  • Mission Alignment: Personal commitment or connection to No Barriers’ mission; dedication to creating spaces that are welcoming and inclusive

We recognize that no candidate perfectly fits every qualification listed. If you believe you have the skills, passion, and vision to succeed in this role, we encourage you to apply and tell us why you’d be a great fit.
