Our marketing team supports all kinds of events and projects happening at Art from Ashes. We are looking for someone with experience marketing using social media sites to enhance our ability to outreach to the community.

What We Offer

AfA provides interns with hands on experience and guidance from seasoned nonprofit professionals to develop their professional skills. Interns are provided opportunities to:

  • Develop a greater understanding of non-profit work at the foundational and operational level including administration, fund development, event planning, volunteer management, and marketing/communications.;
  • Engage with youth, guest artists, and staff to empower youth through poetry, spoken word, and art; 
  • Collaborate with schools, hospitals, treatment centers, juvenile justice centers, local human rights organizations, and other youth-serving agencies to support youth programing;
  • Engage with the greater community to provide platforms for youth voices to be heard;
  • Participate in curriculum and facilitation trainings (conducted through our adult workshop series);.

Roles of the Art from Ashes Intern might include (but are not limited to) one or a combination of the following:

  • Social Media and Communications—research, plan, and curate for all of AfA’s social media platforms (Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram); 
  • Graphic Design—create social media graphics, design external promotional material, and lend a design eye to AfA’s art projects; 
  • Development and Fundraising—identify fundraising opportunities through grant-writing, business sponsorships, individual donor engagement, and other development initiatives;
  • Agency Operations—support the Director of Operations and the Agency Administrator in their administrative and operational tasks.

Interns will be supervised by the corresponding Director, depending on your role as an intern. Assignments and daily tasks will vary depending on your focus area. We’ve got something for everyone!

Who are you?

Background and Experience:

Individuals of all backgrounds and educational experiences (both formal and informal) are encouraged to apply. 

  • Artists, designers, writers, human rights educators, engineers, teachers, community organizers, researchers, and the technologically-savvy are strongly encouraged to apply.
  • Must possess a strong interest in advocating for human rights and a passion for creating positive change. 
  • Prior experience working with youth in a community-based and/or school setting is preferable.

Knowledge and Skills: 

  • Purpose-driven, organized, and self-sufficient;
  • Demonstrated communication and collaboration skills and the ability to take on and manage different projects simultaneously; 
  • Willingness to take initiative and contribute to the organization’s programs and their overall development; 
  • Excellent computer skills, including experience with Mac programs, and social media platforms. Experience with Photoshop and other design programs and website development is required for those interested in joining the communication team as a Graphic Designer;
  • Sense of humor, humility, and creativity.


  • Commitment of at least 5 hours/week for the duration of the semester internship. 
  • Start date is flexible.
  • Internships will be 100% remote, therefore the intern must have consistent access to a computer and reliable internet source. We understand that not all individuals may have access to these resources. If this is a barrier, please contact us directly to discuss.
