JOB SUMMARY

This position is responsible for verifying, compiling, and auditing employer, member, and retiree account information for the processing of benefits to ensure legal and regulatory compliance in accordance with the state and federal laws and rules governing Colorado PERA.

Areas of Responsibility

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Analyzes, researches, and verifies employer, member, and retiree records to ensure legal and regulatory compliance of PERA benefit programs
  • Demonstrates knowledge of state and federal statutes and rules governing PERA
  • Identifies and resolves minor compliance issues; develops recommendations and works with internal staff and management to resolve complex issues
  • Communicates effectively with members, retirees, employers, and internal staff to ensure benefit program compliance
  • Works with compliance team members to prepare and develop annual audit strategy and timeline
  • Presents audit results to management
  • Makes recommendations for process improvements
  • Prepares, reports, and presents information in a meaningful and logical manner
  • Communicates benefit program information via in-office meetings, telephone, written correspondence, and email
  • Responsible for data entry, information retrieval, written correspondence, and mailings
  • Participates in training and educational opportunities for ongoing professional development
  • Maintains regular and prompt attendance in the workplace
  • Carries out other duties as assigned
Requirements/Qualifications
  • A combination of education and experience equivalent to 5 years of benefits administration preferably related to pension compliance
  • Demonstrated experience working with higher educational institutions’ Optional Retirement Plans (ORP) and the University of Colorado Retirement Plan
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of working after retirement designations such as the 140 day and the critical shortage provisions
  • Demonstrated experience working with Denver Public Schools (DPS) benefit structure provisions
  • Detail-oriented with an aptitude for math, statistics and algorithms
  • Effective verbal and written interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to work successfully within a team-focused environment
  • Ability to comprehend and communicate legal requirements
  • Ability to deal professionally with time sensitive and/or confidential information and situations
  • Ability to prioritize, organize and work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to travel overnight on a limited basis
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office software
Compensation/Benefits
Compensation: 

Salary:                         $24.00 - $30.00 per hour, commensurate with experience
