Judaism Your Way

Judaism Your Way (JYW) is an independent, Colorado-based Jewish outreach organization that is inclusive and welcoming for all who seek joyful Jewish connections and experiences. JYW delivers meaningful and relevant Jewish experiences that enable participants to have an affordable way to participate in Jewish life; connect a love of nature and the outdoors to their spiritual practice and feel safe, valued and included. Our signature programs include: free High Holy Day services at the Denver Botanic Gardens; Open Tent B’nai Mitzvah ceremony preparation and officiation, and interfaith support including rabbinic officiation at weddings and a couples group.

Job Summary:

The Judaism Your Way (JYW) Development Director will work with the Executive Director to execute the Mitzvah Your Way combined $7.87M Endowment, Operating and Planned Giving Campaign. In conjunction with the Executive Director and Board of Directors, the Development Director will identify and cultivate donors, and implement targeted solicitation strategies designed to increase JYW’s donor database and close gifts. Additionally, the Development Director will manage development records, systems, and administrative procedures related to JYW’s overall fundraising goals.

Supervision Received:

The Development Director reports to the Executive Director.

Areas of Responsibility

Essential Functions:

  1. Engage with the Executive Director to implement a comprehensive strategic development plan for JYW.
  • Plan, organize, and manage the Mitzvah Your Way Campaign in partnership with the Executive Director.
  • Coordinate a strategic fundraising plan that includes individual, corporate, foundation, and grant targets.
  • Convene and staff a monthly fundraising committee comprised of Board and Community Members.
  • Draft fundraising materials, coordinate mailings, and online campaigns.
  • Track grant reporting requirements and reports.


2. Direct efforts to engage and steward donors.


  • Develop strong relationships with Executive Director, board members, staff, Foundation Directors/staff, community influencers and leaders critical to JYW’s fundraising success.
  • Plan and supervise donor cultivation events, experiences, and literature.
  • Manage and coordinate all fundraising mailings, including creation of letters and materials in partnership with the Executive Director and Marketing/Communications Manager.
  • Cultivate donors through regular face-to-face solicitations and other communications.
  • Develop effective thank you letters, annual appeals and other solicitation materials.
  • Work with Marketing/Communications Manager to ensure that development information on the website is up to date and accurate.


3. Create JYW policies to maintain strong system of record keeping and recording campaign prospects, pledges, and gifts.


  • Develop appropriate policies to achieve excellence in recording, reporting and communicating fundraising goals to Executive Director and Board.
  • Oversee the administrative support for development including ensuring that donor acknowledgements are completed in a timely manner and that appropriate records, prospect lists, and mailing lists are maintained.
  • Manage current donor management system, eTapestry, to its full capability including data entry, analysis and reports.
  • Track and report fundraising results to Executive Director and Board.
  • Demonstrate confidentiality in handling the organization’s financial and client information.


4. Work with Executive Director to ensure successful fundraising and donor appreciation events.

  • Work closely with Events and Volunteer Manager, contractors, venues, and staff to ensure events raise money and effectively cultivate donors.
  • Track and report event registration and funds to Executive Director.
  • Work with Communications and Marketing Director to coordinate promotions materials for the event.
  • Recruit, schedule, and train volunteers for fundraising events.
  • Implement systems to track, record, and respond to all event donations, event sponsors, and track sponsorship agreements and payments.

Functional/Technical Skills: Has the functional and technical knowledge and skills to manage eTapestry data entry and reporting at a high level of accomplishment.

  • Five years of development experience with one-on-one and event fundraising, ideally in a non-profit setting
  • Experience with donor database management, preferably a Blackbaud product like E-Tapestry or Raiser’s Edge.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word (including mail merge), and Excel
  • Event planning experience a plus
  • Willingness to work as part of a fast-paced and dynamic team and enthusiastically promote agency mission in all activities
  • • Valid driver’s license, able to drive a car and provide own transportation to various programs, events, and meetings
  • • Must have own form of transportation and be able to lift 25 pounds.
  • This is a full time, 40 hour/week position.
  • Salary commensurate with experience.
  • Agency currently pays 100% medical, dental, short term disability and long term disability insurance for full-time employees. JYW employees are eligible to participate in a 403B savings plan.
  • Generous vacation policy including all Jewish holidays off with the exception of Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, and the 8th Night of Passover.
