Denver Food Rescue’s (DFR) mission is to increase health equity with Denver neighborhoods. DFR achieves this by resourcing fresh produce and delivering it to community-organized No Cost Grocery Programs (NCGPs). DFR works alongside grassroots leadership to support food security, food sovereignty, and social justice in the Denver Metro area. Position Description

Denver Food Rescue (DFR)  is seeking a full time creative Development Manager to work alongside the Executive Director (ED) to create and manage DFR’s donor programs and the implementation of a community centric fundraising plan. Collaborate with the ED to create a development plan which increases brand awareness and revenue to support the strategic direction of DFR. You will also assist the ED in organizing DFR events, work with community partners, and food donors. This is an outstanding entry level opportunity for a motivated, and detail-oriented individual who is passionate about health equity, social justice, and food security.

Areas of Responsibility


Donor Management (35% of role)

  • Assist the ED with the execution of DFR’s development strategy.
  • Manage partnerships with existing donors and strengthen engagement to increase donation opportunities.
  • Maintaining records in hard copies and computer databases.
  • Identify, define and develop funding sources to support existing and planned program activities as well as lead the development, writing, and submission of grant proposals to federal, state, and private funding agencies.
  • Maintaining proficient knowledge of the organization’s history and programs.
  • Identify and cultivate new food, distributors, wholesalers, and growers.
  • Maintains our donor database (Salesforce & iATS)tracking and recording all amounts and records notes from donor interactions.
  • Communicate with donors regarding food safety, quality and packaging concerns.
  • Donor acknowledgment of contributions..
  • Develop innovative partnerships that address food supply chain challenges.
  • In partnership with the ED and Program Director, plan, implement, evaluate and manage DFR food sourcing operations to support DFR programming.
  • Collaborate with the ED to send funders newsletters, and to promote on-site tours.


Grant Writing(approx. 35% of role).

  • Writing, submitting, and managing compelling grant proposals.
  • Identifying grant funding opportunities.
  • Writing, submitting, and managing compelling grant proposals.
  • Furnishing prospective funders with supporting documents.
  • Attend and represent DFR at various grant funding meetings.


Communications (approx 15% of role)

  • Assist the ED and the Volunteer Manager in preparing and tracking donor, investor, and stakeholder communications.
  • Collaborate with the ED to send funders newsletters. 
  • Assist in developing and sharing content on our social media platforms.
  • Oversee year-end mailing to 1000 recipients; support the ED with online giving campaigns, fundraising and marketing events as needed.
  • Assist in the implementation of donor recognition and stewardship activities.

  • At least 2 years of writing experience.
  • Experience with or knowledge of social service/hunger issues is a plus.
  • Experience working with diverse communities.
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English a plus.
  • Work Environment This position will operate primarily in-person and occasional opportunities to work remotely through Google Workspace.

Employment type: Full time exempt position.

Reports to: Executive Director

Compensation: $50,000-55,000 per year, based on experience
