Organizational Summary

Tall Tales Ranch is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of people living with intellectual/developmental disabilities. Tall Tales Ranch (TTR) is building a neuro-diverse community, in Lone Tree, which will be home to people both with and without disabilities. Tall Tales Ranch will have a thriving coffee shop, which will employ people with special needs and be used as a vocational training center as well. Tall Tales Ranch will have 30 residences, a community center barn, and community gardens. We envision a place where all people are honored for their unique skills and are supported to live as independently as possible. We have been nurturing and growing our vision for the past 7 years and have a competent, passionate staff.

Executive Director Position Description

Tall Tales Ranch is a nonprofit organization that is seeking an experienced, passionate, highly motivated professional for the role of Executive Director. Our ideal candidate is a visionary who believes in their ability to effect change and will confidently lead our organization into the next stages of our development. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of our organization, ensuring that we are operating efficiently and effectively to meet strategic and business goals. In this role, you will be the face of our organization, working closely with the Board of Directors, the staff, our donors and the public. You will ensure that staff members are aligned with the company’s mission and vision and that we are working together to successfully achieve strategic objectives. Our organization has a close-knit culture in which we place the highest priorities on communication, honesty, collaboration and respect. We are in search of an Executive Director who is aligned with our culture and who will continue to enhance it through their positive leadership. This position reports directly to the Board President and the Executive Board of Directors.

Areas of Responsibility

● Collaborate with staff and board members on stewardship of the organizational mission, vision and values

● Develop and implement both long and short term strategic plans that meet business goals and objectives created in partnership with the Board of Directors and staff

● Manage all organizational bookkeeping and finances in partnership with the Board treasurer and the TTR accountant

● Recruit, develop and manage a team of dedicated employees

● Ensure commitment to and compliance with all applicable laws and regulations across the organization

● Maintain a culture of transparency, collaboration and respect throughout the organization

● Develop and maintain positive relationships with key stakeholders, donors, corporate and foundation partners and community members

● Proactively address challenges and communicate openly with the Board of Directors

● Develop and manage an annual budget and monthly financial statements which accurately reflect the financial condition of the organization

● Develop and manage a development plan, including: fundraising events, donor recognition, solicitation and maintenance, and grant writing

● Work with the Board, and staff to ensure that the mission is fulfilled through programs, strategic planning and community outreach

● Cultivate a culture of integrity and collaboration with both internal and external entities

● Attend Board and Committee meetings

● Must be able to work flexible hours which may include some weekends and weeknights

● Support TTR staff in sustaining communications through our newsletter, social media, website and print

● Hold weekly staff meetings with the team as well as weekly meetings with individual staff members

● Conduct annual formal performance evaluations of staff members

● Manage HR systems including payroll, benefits, PTO, job posting, hiring, training/orientation, evaluation

Requirements/Qualifications
  • At least 5 years professional experience in an executive level leadership position at a small to medium sized nonprofit organization.
  • Degree in business administration, nonprofit management or related field
  • Development/grant writing experience is a plus
  • Previous experience cultivating and stewarding individual, corporate and foundation relationships at all levels of giving
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement successful strategic plans
  • Deep understanding of financial strategies and finance-related performance metrics
  • Strong aptitude for verbal and written communication, presentation, and relationship development
  • In-depth knowledge of best practices in nonprofit management and governance
  • Knowledge of, and experience working in, the I/DD world is a plus
Compensation/Benefits
Compensation: 

The salary rate for this position will be commensurate with experience and will range from $85,000-$100,000
