The Payroll Specialist responsible for the processing and timely delivery of assigned payrolls.The Payroll Specialist uses an understanding of the organization’s HRMS and payroll system to accurately pay employees in compliance with federal and state regulations.

Areas of Responsibility


  • Compiles and processes bi-weekly payroll for non-exempt employees; prepares and issues paychecks
  • Serves as a back-up for monthly payroll ensuring full cross-training
  • Complies with federal, state, and local requirements as well as PERA rules; ensures adherence to requirements
  • Performs reconciliation and reporting related to the payroll process
  • Provides an offsetting review of the monthly payroll or other payrolls to ensure accuracy
  • Provides Time and Attendance HRM system training and/or other training to management and employees
  • Calculates adjustments as needed
  • Adheres to payroll policies and procedures; advises management of actions needed
  • Researches and resolves payroll issues in a timely manner to ensure accuracy of payments
  • Prepares and reviews audit reports including but not limited to overtime, manager punch changes, missing lunch punches, etc., as well as preparing reports for Internal Audit as needed
  • Identifies process improvement opportunities and presents recommendations as applicable
  • Maintains employee confidence and protects payroll and HR operations by keeping information confidential
  • Prepares year end processes for W-2s, other year end processes
  • Prepares manual on-demand pay checks and off-cycle payrolls as needed
  • Processes vendor invoices, tax liabilities, and ensures correct payments
  • Prepares and runs reports for other divisions as needed
  • Performs employment verifications
  • Ensure the payroll system is maintained accurately
  • Answer employee questions and provide support as needed
  • Supports all aspects of payroll administration
  • May be assigned special projects and initiatives
  • Maintains regular and prompt attendance in the workplace
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • A high school diploma or equivalent; Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree preferred
  • At least three years of progressively responsible payroll processing experience required
  • Comprehensive knowledge of employee payroll processing and federal/state employment laws/regulations
  • Experience with payroll software; Paycom experience preferred
  • Team oriented individual who interacts with and supports team members
  • Effective communicator, able to clearly relay information both verbally and in writing
  • Statistical, mathematical, and quantitative analysis skills with high attention to detail and accuracy
  • Interpersonal skills and capable of interacting with a variety of personalities
  • Ability to analyze a problem/situation, and strategically plan to achieve the best possible solutions
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office

Salary:   $24.00-$32.00 per hour, commensurate with experience
