This individual works under a contract with the Colorado Department of Human Services State Unit on Aging to provide the functions below and to provide legal support to the Colorado State Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program.

Areas of Responsibility

This position will carry out and provide leadership in securing and maintaining legal rights of older adults as described in Title VII of the Older Americans Act.  This position will also coordinate Title III Legal Assistance Programs contracted through Area Agencies on Aging (AAAs); provide technical assistance, training, and other supportive functions to AAAs, legal assistance providers, ombudsmen, and other persons as appropriate; and assist older adults in understanding their rights, exercising choices, benefiting from services and opportunities, and maintaining their rights if they are at risk of guardianship.

A goal of the program is to improve the quality and quantity of legal services provided to older adults in Colorado. The Legal Assistance Developer will be expected to represent Disability Law Colorado on relevant committees in the areas of elder rights, as well as work with policy makers on relevant issues and train community members on the rights of older adults.

Requirements/Qualifications
  • • Law Degree from an accredited law school
  • • Current Colorado license to practice law is required or the ability to waive into Colorado through another state license
  • • Ability to travel throughout the state
  • • Experience working with older adults and/or knowledge of elder law is preferred
  • • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • • Computer literacy and proficiency with software utilized to carry out job functions
Compensation/Benefits
Compensation: 

The hiring range for this position is $65,000-$69,000.
