Job Description: 

Organizational Mission: Project Angel Heart improves health and well-being for people with life-threatening illnesses by preparing and delivering medically tailored meals and promoting the power of food as medicine.

Position Summary: Position manages all aspects of agency’s nutrition offerings, organization of meal inventory, standards, and nutrition goals. Position provides nutrition education and counseling to interested parties.

Amount of Time and Status:  40 hours per week, exempt

Reports to:  Vice President of Program Operations.

Supervises: Nutrition and Dietetic Technician, Registered, Modified Meals Nutritionist, and Nutrition Services Assistant

Areas of Responsibility
  • Keeps up to date on nutrition recommendations for chronically ill individuals and establishes dietary standards using evidence-based practice guidelines for the various disease states of the organization’s client population
  • Provides evidence-based nutrition education and counseling to Project Angel Heart clients living with complex medical conditions
  • Identifies trends in nutrition analysis and communicates nutrition-related recommendations; works in partnership across departments to implement changes
  • Supervises the Nutrition and Dietetic Technician, Registered, and the Modified Meals Nutritionist, and Nutrition Services Assistant to ensure appropriate yields, nutrition analysis, and organization of meal inventory
  • Maintains a working knowledge of nutrition requirements for state and federally mandated nutrition programs (i.e. Older Americans Act, Dietary Guidelines for Americans, etc.)
  • Serves as a representative of Project Angel Heart in the media and at community events, as necessary.
  • Answers all nutrition-related questions from referral partners and provides education to staff, volunteers, and other constituents, as requested
  • Serves as a preceptor to dietetic interns and/or nutrition students
  • Creates literature that provides constituents a brief overview of basic nutrition concepts
  • Other duties as assigned
    Working Environment/Physical Activities:

    Working environment is in a busy industrial kitchen and offices.  Regular walking and standing in hot and cold environments in the kitchen facilities is required, along with frequent interaction with volunteers. Physical activities also include sitting at a desk and working on a keyboard and computer, conducting business over the phone and via email. The position requires the ability to interface professionally and effectively with the public and to enunciate clearly in front of groups. Standing for extended periods of time at various functions may be required.

Requirements/Qualifications
  • Must be a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist in good standing with the Commission on Dietetic Registration
  • Experience in food service, food production, and/or long-term care, preferred
  • Familiarity of evidence-based nutrition standards for individuals living with chronic illnesses (i.e. end stage renal disease, heart failure, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, HIV/AIDS, etc.), preferred
  • Intermediate knowledge of ESHA nutrient analysis software preferred
  • Proven public speaking abilities (experience working with the media is a bonus)
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products, specifically Excel
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal); ability to tailor tone and complex nutrition topics to a variety of audiences
  • Extremely detail-orientated and accurate with numbers and written documentation
  • Experience working with or supervising volunteers is a plus
  • Willingness and ability to work with diverse populations
  • Valid Colorado Driver’s License and reliable transportation preferred
Compensation/Benefits
Compensation: 

Salary range is $60,000-$75,000.
