Job Description: 

The ideal candidate will have an appreciation and background in voluntarism supporting the mandate for effective and efficient nonprofit, management. The successful candidate will be a self-starter, critical thinker, team player, as well as an effective steward for limited resources.  The position is ideal for an early career person or seasoned professional seeking a relevant place to engage with Africa and animal welfare issues. ANAW-USA is passionate about its fund-raising work, committed to animal welfare, communities, conservation, and social justice. The 20-25 hr/week work hours are somewhat flexible, and our workspace is located at the Posner Center for International Development at 1031 33rd Street Denver, Colorado.

The priority duties will include:

  • Managing a small office in Denver
  • Reporting to the board of directors and supervised by the Board President
  • Assisting with a wide variety of fundraising activities including helping to coordinate veterinarian, university and donor tours; support in managing the donor database; complying with reporting; and renewal processes for institutional funders, such as the Combined Federal Campaign and Colorado Gives. This includes correspondence, grant research, foundation review, grant writing in collaboration with the Nairobi office, and more. 
Areas of Responsibility

ANAW-USA, located in Denver Colorado, provides an array of administrative and organizational development services to its sister organization, the Africa Network in Animal Welfare (ANAW) in Nairobi Kenya.

 

ANAW-USA promotes animal welfare by working with people and communities in Kenya.  We are a clearinghouse for philanthropic activity in East Africa and a gatekeeper who safeguards donors making gifts to assure compliance with standards for making non-profit contributions to Africa. The programs of ANAW include: ecotourism/educational trips for universities, work trips veterinarians, anti-poaching and desnaring activities protecting elephants and other wildlife, humane education programs in schools in Nairobi, and fighting the encroachment of development activities impacting animals and wildlife.  In Colorado, our activities center around helping provide the volunteers, financial resources, and technical assistance to our important work in Africa.  We help raise funds through donations, private foundations, arranging for speaking and fundraising tours from Kenyan leaders, and other activities.

Requirements/Qualifications
  • Experience in voluntarism, lifelong learner, college exposed, self-starter, critical thinker, team player with good playground skills. Cheerful temperament. Able to travel for long distances and lift 20 pounds of paperwork.
Compensation/Benefits

This is a contract position with compensation up to $3,000 per month.   Opportunity to grow the organization to the next level as well as eventual full-time employment is possible. This position may involve periodic visits to Kenya to meet with the staff, board, and leadership that operates there.
