Job Description: 

This position serves as the director designee, for the Director of Special Education for Tennyson Center School.   The Special Education Coordinator will work as an administrator by supporting the Director of Special Education in oversight of special education and instructional services for the school.  The coordinator will support the evaluation of special education services and personnel as assigned. As an instructional leader, the Special Education Coordinator will be available to support and facilitate the problem-solving process to determine best instructional practices and therapeutic interventions in the classroom.  The coordinator will help to support the schools’ level of continuous improvement plan that will support the organization’s strategic plan for increased school performance.  

Areas of Responsibility


  • Collaborate in the development of special education procedures that are aligned with the Individuals with a Disability Act (IDEA) and the Exceptional Children’s Education Act (ECEA); communicate and support all special education staff in following the special education procedures
  • Provide procedural and instructional coaching for all special education staff including special education teachers, general education teachers, related services, and Student Engagement Specialist (SES)
  • Provide peer-administration consultation with school-based staff around special education procedures, special education law, and instructional best practices 
  • Support school leaders, including the Director of Special Education in conduction personnel evaluations of special education teachers, related service staff and SES staff
  • Participate in on-going professional learning provided through Tennyson Center, as well as professional learning that is collaboratively determined by the leadership team
  • Coordinate with parents, care givers, agency departments, school districts and community resources 
  • Leads and facilitates the planning of Extended School Year (ESY) program
  • Allocate additional adult supports based on individual student needs through float YTCs and clinical staff 
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or requested


  • Supervision of direct reports that may include special education teachers, or related services staff
  • Indirect supervision of building based special education teachers and/or related service providers in coordination with building leadership 


  • Participate in department special education budget building process
  • Collaborative decision making regarding the purchase of resources 
  • Master’s degree (preferred)
  • Bachelor’s degree with experience
  • Minimum of three years special education teaching or providing related services experience
  • Colorado Special Education Director License (preferred) or Colorado Administrator License; or able to obtain
  • Employment Requirement: All employees must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 by September 30, 2021. All persons offered a position will be required to provide valid proof of vaccination prior to starting employment.

Salary: $60,000

*New Hire Sign on Bonus: $500 after 90 days; additional $1000 after 6 months
