The Association Communications Team aims to convene marketers and communicators to exchange ideas, generate solutions, and to help us all better understand the implementation and implications of the boycott.

Let’s use the power of our network to explore digital engagement for good, alternative outreach channels, and the uniqueness of our sector.

Colorado Nonprofit Association stands in solidarity with the growing number of companies boycotting Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram advertising, in response to continual irresponsible and harmful handling of hate speech, racism, and violence on the platforms. 

Effective June 29, 2020, our Communications Department is halting spending money on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram until the social media giants are held accountable and demonstrate a considerable shift in operations toward the equitable treatment of their users. We are adding our voice to the collective call for condemnation of hate speech on these platforms. We will maintain our 2020 budgetary allotment for spending on digital advertising but will reallocate and redirect to responsible channels.

Boycotting is an opportunity for the Association to audit and reimagine our vendor relationships for intention and purpose alignment. It is also a tangible way to align Association cultural values with our financial values on a deeper, more meaningful level, and to join #StopHateForProfit’s call for “systematic improvements to the health and transparency of the digital media ecosystem.”

Presenters

Maureen Maycheco is an award-winning marketing and communications professional with over ten years of experience, both domestic and abroad. She understands the value of data-driven decision making, and she believes "showing up for your audiences" is the key to communication success. Maureen's main driver is the creation and implementation of thoughtful, integrated strategies that positively impact the Association, as well as nonprofits across Colorado. She is on a mission to boldly share the importance of balancing heart & science in all strategic communications efforts, no matter your budget, capacity, or experience.  



 



 





Rachel is a dedicated communications professional and storyteller with a passion for supporting and promoting the nonprofit sector and its many helpful causes. Rachel is a graduate from the University of Denver with a Masters of Arts degree in International and Intercultural Communications with an emphasis in nonprofit strategic communication and has undergraduate degrees in journalism and natural resource tourism from Colorado State University. She is a current member of the Young Nonprofit Professionals Network (YNPN), Nonprofit Technology Enterprise Network, and the International Association for Business Communicators.



She is a Returned Peace Corps Volunteer (Ecuador, '14-'16) where she developed a passion for assisting local communities with small scale fundraising and business ventures. Rachel's previous work includes multiple roles on the Rocky Mountain Collegian, national blogging sites, travel-centered public relations firms, and nonprofit work In her free time, Rachel enjoys going to trivia, entertaining her cat and hosting sports watch parties at home.
