Nonprofit Culture & HR Essentials
Course Description:
HR can be overwhelming - and is often the last thing nonprofits leaders want to deal with, which leads to conflict, turnover, and frustration for all involved! Rather than getting tripped up by handbooks and policies, it's important to get grounded in the culture you want to build, and learn a few simple, actionable strategies that every nonprofit needs for hiring, onboarding, and effective feedback.
In this half-day session, participants will learn simple concepts and get hands-on practice using tools and frameworks to address issues and gaps their organizations have, and will walk away with templates and resources they can share with colleagues.
Key learning objectives about Culture/HR include:
-
Defining the organizational culture and how it may need to evolve
-
Essentials of hiring: candidate profiles and search strategies
-
Essentials of expectation-setting and onboarding new hires: how to shift from rules and policies to human-centered approaches
-
Essentials of effective feedback: how to build your own feedback muscles, and make sure the message is heard
This session is ideal for smaller nonprofits, where there isn't a dedicated HR staff member (though there may be an outsourced HR support); any staff member who wears an HR hat can benefit from this session.
