Maximizing Insight Using Active Listening
Course Description:
How often do we listen to respond rather than listen to understand? Mastering the art of active listening is critical in all domains of work and life, but especially so in monitoring, evaluation, and learning work.
The essence of an evaluation project is to seek out, understand, and summarize the perspective of people who experience the world in radically different ways than we do. In this practical and engaging workshop, we'll explore the fundamental components of active listening and how these practices apply to the learning and evaluative work that happens in social mission organizations. Through a series of interactive exercises and discussions, participants will learn how to hone their active listening skills to foster a more inclusive environment and get real, authentic input from their community.
Course Objectives:
- A deep understanding of the practices of active listening that they can apply to build empathy and trust in learning & evaluation conversations.
- Stronger active listening skills, including interpreting and responding to verbal and non-verbal communication cues.
- Insights into the thorniest personal and situational barriers to active listening, and ways to overcome these barriers.
- Tools and exercises they can use to promote the adoption of active listening across their organization.
