The Nonprofit Legal Audit Clinic is here to support your nonprofit by addressing specific legal questions and providing a big-picture overview of your organization’s legal health.
The Clinic is designed to address your nonprofit’s specific legal questions while also providing a comprehensive overview of its overall legal health. To ensure you get the most out of your time with our attorney team, we recommend focusing on both your immediate legal concerns and a broader evaluation of your organization’s needs. Before the Clinic, you'll receive a preparation guide to help assess your legal health. This will be followed by a mandatory meeting with a paralegal, who will help further assess your needs and match you with the right volunteer attorney team.
Volunteer lawyers may assist in a variety of topics including: Advocacy and lobbying, Contracts, Corporate Formation & Governance, Data Privacy/security, Finance, Healthcare , Intellectual property, Labor& Employment, Nonprofit Compliance, Real Estate, Risk Management, Social Enterprise & Nonprofit Events, Transactions

Steps to Apply and Participate
Step 1: Check Eligibility

Ensure your organization meets the eligibility requirements and can commit to attending the clinic:

Organization must be a member of the Colorado Nonprofit Association

Organization must have a budget of $750,000 or less.

Organization must be a registered 501(c)(3) organization.

Step 2: Submit an Application
-
The application helps ensure the clinic can address your specific needs. Please note that the Nonprofit Legal Audit Clinic cannot assist with litigation or matters that may lead to litigation.
Step 3: Complete a Legal Audit Preparation Guide

We will provide a guidebook that measures your organization’s legal health and prepares you for meeting with the paralegals.
Step 4: Meet with a Paralegal

Must participate in a pre-clinic meeting with a skilled paralegal.

This step ensures your organization is matched with the most suitable attorney team and optimizes the clinic’s efficiency.
Step 5: Attend the Clinic

Attend the clinic in person at the host law firm.

Rural organizations may participate via Zoom if unable to attend in person.
PLEASE NOTE: The Clinic is intended to help nonprofit organizations think about transactional and regulatory legal issues. The Clinic is not intended to assist nonprofit organizations with threatened, pending, or active litigation matters. Lawyers are not required to continue partnership after the clinic. If you are interested in continuing your work with your lawyers, you must discuss it with them at the clinic.
