Colorado Decides: How Nonprofits Can Legally and Effectively Engage During Election Season

This virtual training gives nonprofit leaders a roadmap for engaging in election-related advocacy activities. As Colorado prepares for the general election on November 3rd, this timely training will cover the opportunities, relevant rules and limitations, and strategies nonprofits need to effectively participate during election season.

While nonprofits are permitted to engage in legislative advocacy and lobbying, 501(c)(3) organizations face strict limits on participating in political campaigns and elections. Despite these limitations, nonprofits don't have to sit on the sidelines. Organizations can engage candidates on a nonpartisan basis, support or oppose ballot measures, and conduct nonpartisan voter engagement and get-out-the-vote efforts.

Key takeaways: This webinar will specifically outline how nonprofits can engage candidates for public office, participate in ballot measure campaigns, and conduct voter engagement efforts. Participants will leave with an understanding of the rules governing these activities, how to identify opportunities for engagement, and practical strategies for effectively participating during election season.
