It is with sadness that I am writing to share that Bill Funk passed away last week. As Vice President of Public Affairs for United Banks, Bill always made the nonprofit community and its supporters his highest priority. His vision of corporate giving in the context of building community changed charitable giving in Colorado, and his gifts of time and wise counsel strengthened many community-based nonprofits throughout the state.
Like many of you, I had the privilege of working with Bill on the selection committee for the award named after him. Bill was always congenial and unpretentious. He had a keen eye for picking the nominee with the most outstanding leadership and impact qualities to receive the Funk Award, which signified prestigious recognition. One of my fun duties in the selection process is calling the winners. Universally, they are humbled to receive the honor (to the point of tears) which they know has a long tradition of excellence beginning with Bill Funk himself. We are all better for having known him.
Services will be held on Thursday, June 27th at 2pm at Bethany Lutheran Church - 4500 E Hampden Ave, Cherry Hills Village, CO 80113. An obituary was published in Sunday's Denver Post.
