Every two years, the Colorado Nonprofit Association publishes the Colorado Nonprofit Salaries & Benefits Survey, a digital publication that is composed of valuable data from nonprofits across the state. It is used by hundreds of nonprofits to set competitive compensation packages to help nonprofit organizations retain and attract talent.
The 2023 Colorado Nonprofit Salaries & Benefits Survey provides valuable information to nonprofit organizations and their employees. Some highlights include:
Salaries
67% of executive directors surveyed were women.
Across all positions, women made $5,610 less annually than male counterparts.
- Despite that, female executive directors make an average of $18,376 less than male executive directors. (Most of that difference is concentrated in the 50th percentile, which is $125,519 for men and $105,867 for women.)
- Non-binary respondents made $18,947 less annually than male counterparts.
Communications Director Salaries
- The highest average communications director salary was in the legal/advocacy/civil rights mission area.
- The lowest average communications director salary was in the environmental mission area.
Benefits
89% of organizations surveyed offered at least one day of remote work per week.
74% of organizations surveyed offer flexible working hours.
The most common benefit offered was training and professional development, followed by a flexible work schedule.
96% of smaller nonprofits pay $300 and above in monthly stipends for health insurance.
- This is a large increase from 72% in 2021
All nonprofits with more than $2.5 million in revenue offer a health insurance plan.
Only 12% of nonprofit organizations in Colorado offer unlimited time off or unlimited PTO.
