October 16th, 2024. We are disappointed with the Aurora City Council’s resolution calling for an investigation into nonprofit organizations working to minimize the effects of the migrant crisis. This rhetoric is harmful, and creates a false narrative that nonprofit organizations are the cause of this crisis, rather than a part of the solution.
Colorado’s nonprofit community serves a critical role in supporting state and local government partners with the varied and multifaceted challenges they face. Nonprofits are dynamic resources, and help local governments respond more quickly to trending and novel issues that may face a community. This resolution wrongly places blame on nonprofit organizations, who are working to assist the City of Aurora to alleviate this crisis, rather than addressing the root cause of the issue or considering other more comprehensive solutions.
